Abstract

Elderly is a term for someone who has entered the final adult period, or old age. This period is the closing period for a person's life span, where gradual physical and psychological decline occurs (Abdillah & Octaviani, 2017). Dementia is a symptom of decreased memory, thinking, behavior, and ability to carry out daily activities such as walking. Loss of intellectual capacity in dementia is not only in memory but also in cognition and personality (WHO, 2019This research aims to identify the results of the analysis of the Fukuda Stapping Test program on the level of dementia in the elderly to prevent emergency conditions. The research used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-and post-test design without a control group. Correlation tests were carried out using Spearman's test to determine the relationship between CDR scores and Fukuda Stepping Test results. The research respondents were 40 respondents with varying conditions of dementia. The sampling technique in this study used non-probability sampling, and the sample used consecutive sampling. The effect of using the Fukuda Stapping Test application on the level of dementia in the elderly in preventing emergency conditions was measured during the pre-test and post-test using SPSS version 16.0. The results were analyzed using Spearman's test to determine the relationship between the CDR score and the results of the Fukuda stepping test. The p-value was 0.01 (≤ 0.05), meaning a very strong relationship between dementia and balance disorders in respondents as measured by the Fukuda Stapping Test program. This study concludes that the Fukuda Stepping Test effectively measures the severity of dementia based on CDR and balance disorders to prevent emergency conditions
